Parents of these children are increasingly concerned about the behavioural and emotional problems accompanying hemiplegia, particularly when these children grow up to their early adolescence. Behavioural problems in hemiplegic children characteristically present with irritability rather than deliberate violence and delinquency. General practitioners and paediatricians who work with hemiplegic children should have a high index of suspicion for irritability, particularly in those who have concomitant seizures.
