The three man crew of a US Navy electronic warfare aircraft: COMMANDER CHARLIE BOYLE, LIEUTENANT COMMANDER JAMES JOHNSTON, and AVIATION ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN JOE a??SPARKSa?? GREENE are stationed at the Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia. They fly an older model A-3, twin engine, jet aircraft that is filled with radar jamming equipment. Their missions are both boring and monotonous. On one mission, attempting to approach an aircraft carrier, the USS John F. Kennedy, they drop two five-pound bags of flour on the ship as they fly over. Commander Boyle receives a formal letter of reprimand for their actions. Sparks tells the two officers about a remote control model airplane that he and a friend have built. It is a model of a Boeing 747 airliner, complete with four jet powered engines. He asks Boyle to fly it for him. Boyle agrees and the three of them meet the next day and take the model to an abandoned airfield where Boyle flies the plane around the field a few times. One...
