The Spectrum of Pharmaceutical Knowledge has undergone radical Changes in the last half century. Chalcones afford a facile route of access to many of the heterocyclic systems containing Oxygen and Nitrogen. An attempt is therefore made to synthesize Chalcones from 3-acetyl thiophene by reaction with either aromatic or hetero aromatic aldehydes using Claisen-Schmidt condensation. The Resulting chalcones after purification and characterisation by physical and spectral methods have been successfully converted into substituted pyrimidines and pyrazolines. Chalcones also reported to possess a number of biological activities,they were also screened for some of the activities like antiinflammatory and antimicrobial activities. These were characterised and their biological activities evaluated.All these efforts resulted in the preparation of some promising compounds with significant biological activities.
