The disease is so dreadful that it has been referred to as “Captain of all the men of deaths”. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared tuberculosis as a global emergency in 1993 and currently the tuberculosis control and management is becoming worse due to existence of extensively drug resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB) worldwide. The present work is an outcome of my investigations carried out from tuberculosis patients at a large tertiary care hospital in India. High prevalence of drug resistance, rate of MDR-TB cases and existence of XDR-TB strains in this areas are thought provoking aspects for tuberculosis case management and control programme.Genetics of drug resistance & their transmission are also discussed with their usefulness to make a effort to control tuberculosis.
